Originally introduced in 1967, the rotary engine was Mazda’s distinctive technology. However, production ceased in 2012 due to concerns about fuel economy, leading to the dissolution of the development division in 2018. Last year, Mazda garnered attention by reviving the Iconic SP, a plug-in hybrid vehicle equipped with a rotary engine, showcasing the potential of the rotary engine’s compact size, light weight, and high power in electric vehicles.
