Fate, Destiny, Whatever you want to call it. It runs our lives. The pictures you are now looking at magnify a mere unicorn of a car. Well-rounded exotic Japanese cars driving around here in the United States are often a sight seen as many times a shooting star. Sean Der’s Honda NSX is one that comes with a legacy of appreciation for a single model of automobile. The story behind this albino stallion is truly a remarkable story that Sean has told us first hand.
The history starts when Acura’s New Sports Car Experimental (NSX) came out; Sean knew he would one day own one. He later attended the Maryland Auto Show and witnessed the new release of the “Grand Prix” White NSX in 1992. Sean then continued with his life, even getting married several years later but the thought of owning one of these beauties was always in the back of his mind. One day the newlywed couple was out strolling by the Acura dealership when he caught a white NSX pulling into the lot. The owner of the NSX was trading it in for a Porsche. This was the opportunity Sean has been waiting for and promptly made an offer.
The story doesn’t end there. Sean later took the NSX in for service at the dealership where manager approached him and asked if he would like to know the history of the car. Sean’s answer was as predicted. The manager informed him that this NSX was the same one as Sean witnessed at the Maryland Auto Show in 1991. It was fate. In 1996, he was faced with a difficult decision and ultimately sold the NSX after having his first born child, only to turn around and buy another white ‘96 NSX, eight years later, in 2004. This one was later sold in 2008 after his third child came around. After owning two NSX’s Sean’s brother-in-law and cousin always admired his car, in 2013 they each bought one. Sean started spending more time around the car show scene which compelled him to buy one later that year. The purchase this time was a 2005 NSX (in white of course). It came with HRE wheels, NSX-R body styling, a big break kit, a custom sounds system, coilovers, dampeners, and a carbon fiber accents. After attending a couple of car shows he realized that this was only the beginning. Once again, Sean sold his NSX to start over on a clean slate.
Sean found a needle in a haystack August of 2013; a 1992 Formula Red NSX. It had a customized turbo that was designed and owned by a Acura Certified Service Technician by the name of Xavier Lotuaco of Rosenthal Acura. After purchasing his 4th NSX, sean decided this will be the final one. Lotuaco quoted it as the “Mona Lisa”.
As any enthusiasts most of our time is spent behind the wheel, which happens to be a Momo NRG Retractable Steering Wheel, so life must be good. The seats have a customized embroidered NSX Logo on the Headrest with red stitched bolsters. It’s also completed with a Alcantara Roof lining. Finished off with AEM Gauges adding to the race car feel that the NSX was purposely built for.
This vicsious 3.0L V6 motor has some serious work done also. The installation of the Wiseco 9:2:1 Forged Pistons, Upgraded Valves and all New seals topped off with a Exedy Hyper Single Clutch Assembly to make everything ride smoothly transition is something that makes your mouth water when Sean rolls up to any event. As we mentioned before though this car has the Xavier Lotuaco customised turbo that has all the bells and wistles to include APX Angus Y-pipe with a modified wastegate, FEED customized exhaust and polished piping, and TIAL Sport MVR Wastegates and Blow-Off valve to pushing an astonishing 539rwhp on 11psi.
Presently the car is suspended by BC Racing coilovers and seated on a set of Forged Specialty SC-MX14’s after switching from a set of candy red VIP Modular VX410 inspired by an Instagram post of a white Liberty Walk Ferrari 458 on candy red wheels. These were wrapped in Toyo threads that were specifically fitted for the body kit he would later acquire. The body kit we speak of is the ultra-rare FX Motorsport Development Wide Body Kit (Only 7 in the USA according to NSX Prime). Along the way he has fitted on an NSX-R hood from Seibon, and an APR GTC style wing to give the car that track theme. The car is fitted with a Pioneer DVD double din stereo as well as a Honda Navigation Pod to provide a second screen, mirroring the Honda NSX-R from Japan. When it comes to details Sean isn’t slacking. His NSX is fitted with custom red washers from the engine bay all the way to the spoiler from Sickspeed. To garnish the project Sean wrapped the NSX in 3M Satin Pearl White Vinyl to give it a unique look while maintaining the white color he always admired.
Sean plans to attend more than 15 car shows this season while socially attending weekly meets, as well as appearing in magazine advertisements with one goal in mind. He wants an invite to SEMA 2014 in Las Vegas. We have been truly honored to hear the history of Sean’s NSX and we look forward to seeing what changes come in the years to follow.
